Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I bring my baby along?

Yes, of course. My clinic room is set up to accommodate little people and their needs. If you are able to take some time to come alone that can also be beneficial to really focus on yourself and your needs for a small amount of time.

What should I wear?

Please wear comfortable clothing that you can easily move around in. Gym wear or loose trousers are a good option.

What does an internal examination involve?

An internal examination involves the evaluation of the pelvic floor muscles that are most easily accessed via your vagina. I step out of the room while you remove the lower half of your clothing and lay on the treatment plinth covered by a small towel that I provide. I return to the treatment room having washed my hands and will put on gloves. I prepare some water based lubricant before completing a visual check of your perinneal area (the whole area normally covered by your underwear). I then insert a single, well lubricated finger into your vagina to assess the muscles on all sides. I will ask you to 'clench' your muscles at times while I do this.  I will then dispose of my PPE accordingly and leave the room while you get dressed.

If at any time you feel uncomfortable then we will stop but I will tell you exactly what I am doing throughout.

Do i need to shave?

No. The presence of pubic or leg hair does not impact on my assessment.

What if I am still bleeding or have my period?

This does not impact my assessment however if you would feel more comfortable rearranging then please reschedule with 24hrs notice.

When will I get my report?

If I am unable to complete your report during the assessment visit, I will complete it and email it to you by the end of the day of your appointment.

What about follow up or ongoing care?

At your Mummy MOT appointment we will discuss a rehab plan and go through the initial stages of this. Follow up appointments are booked as 'follow-up osteopathy' appointments for 40 mins at the usual rate.
